Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I book an appointment?

You can email us at admiraaltattoostudio@gmail.com to reach Rob, linastigsson@gmail.com to reach Lina or send a direct message on Instagram. Our Instagram handles are @robadmiraal & @linastigsson. Typically, we respond within a week, often within a few days.

  • Do you accept walk-ins?

Walk-ins are occasionally possible, depending on artist availability and their schedules for the day. We have guest artists who might be available at times. While we predominantly operate by appointments, there are instances when scheduled appointments are brief or get cancelled, allowing for walk-ins. Note that design drawing time might be required. We do offer 'flash' designs and have a preference for styles that emphasize connectivity, such as the 'Japanese' style. We specialize in depicting connections, even in 'one point' tattoos.

  • Can I cancel my appointment?

Absolutely. If unforeseen circumstances prevent you from attending, you can cancel. Such changes can happen on our end too. Tattooing is a process, and situations might evolve, leading to sessions being shorter or longer than planned. If any changes occur, we can often reschedule to a more suitable date. We believe in understanding and adaptability.

  • How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

It's essential to eat before your appointment since it provides the energy required during the tattooing process. Tattooing is not about endurance but about understanding and respecting your body's limits. As you experience the process, you'll learn to strike a balance in comfort. While prolonged tattooing might become uncomfortable, it's crucial to listen to your body. Women are advised against getting tattoos around their menstrual cycle, although many women handle the tattooing process well due to their monthly experience. It's also recommended not to get tattooed around the time of a funeral.

  • Do you offer tattoo cover-ups or removals?

Yes, we offer cover-ups using innovative techniques. Instead of adjusting the new design to mask the old tattoo, we emphasize not letting the previous tattoo dictate the new design. We 'blast over' the old tattoo with the new design and then conduct several short sessions, adding white or special grays where needed to mask any remnants of the old tattoo. Over time, additional layers or colors might be introduced for optimal results.

  • How do you ensure hygiene and safety in the studio?

Our studio strictly adheres to the hygiene and safety guidelines laid out by the Dutch Health Department, GGD. The GGD, being a benchmark health department for the EU, oversees our operations, especially in light of past events. We've recently transitioned to a novel tattoo equipment system. This new system offers enhanced safety – all tools used during tattooing are disposable, with the majority being biodegradable. Such measures drastically reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Furthermore, since we primarily operate by appointments and usually cater to a single appointment each day, it further ensures minimal risk.

All our inks and colors are in full compliance with the latest REACH EU regulations, this further ensures max hygiene.

Our new tattoo equipment also offers a much quicker healing process, is less sensitive for the skin and works much faster as well.

  • How do I take care of my new tattoo?

    Immediate Aftercare:

Once you return home after getting your tattoo, it's recommended to take a hot shower. Start with a mild temperature, especially since your tattoo is a fresh wound. Gradually increase the temperature until your skin starts to tingle. This process helps close up the skin and prevent moisture from seeping out overnight. If moisture does get trapped under your clothing, do not rip the fabric away. Instead, gently soak it with water.

    Sleep and Lifestyle Recommendations:

Sleep with clothing over the tattoo to prevent it from sticking to sheets or blankets. Refrain from alcohol consumption as it can thin your blood. Smoking, interestingly, narrows your veins but is not explicitly discouraged for tattoo aftercare.

    Understanding Your Skin Type:

It's crucial to understand your skin type since care varies. People with greasy skin may only need a hot shower and minimal aftercare products. Those with drier skin might need to keep their tattoo covered with plastic for several days, occasionally refreshing the covering and dabbing it with a clean paper towel. Regardless of skin type, avoid washing the tattoo more than once daily and refrain from rubbing the area. Your skin is healing, and excessive washing could disrupt this process.

    General Care:

For all skin types, avoid activities like swimming or submerging the tattoo underwater until the top layer of skin has healed completely. Also, abstain from strenuous workouts for a few days as sweat might interfere with healing, depending on your lifestyle. Do not wear wool directly over a fresh tattoo. goes here

  • Do you offer custom tattoo designs?

    Tailored to Each Individual:

Every tattoo we craft is a custom design, meticulously created to withstand the test of time. Our aim is to ensure that the essence of the client's vision remains clear and vivid throughout their life.

    Understanding the Nature of Tattoos:

Early in my career, I came to realize a crucial aspect of tattooing: tattoos fade and evolve over time. Due to the natural renewal of body cells and various other chemical processes within our system, a tattoo inevitably changes from its original state.

Why We Work the Way We Do:

My proficiency lies in realistic artwork. While I could easily produce such designs, I recognize that they, like all tattoos, begin to fade from day one. To counteract this, I have honed my skills in crafting intricate abstractions. These designs not only withstand the physical wear but also transcend the shifting sands of personal taste. As tastes change over time—more swiftly for the younger generation—it's paramount that a tattoo achieves a certain level of timelessness, especially given its permanence.

    Redefining Style Through Limitations:

The natural constraints of the tattooing medium—fading over time, the individual's preferences, and the movement and contours of the body—have uniquely shaped my style. In contrast to mediums like painting, which do not carry these restrictions, tattoos demand a different approach.

    Why Mannequins are Essential:

To ensure the design complements the natural movements of the body, I work on mannequin limbs and torsos. This method allows me to understand how a design will interact with joints like elbows and armpits. It's about ensuring that the design harmonizes with, rather than disrupts, the body's contours. A flat sketch, while a starting point, can't offer this depth of insight—it becomes truly meaningful only when adapted to the human form.

  • How much do tattoos cost?

    Price Discussions:

We don't discuss pricing over the internet. However, when we meet in person to discuss your tattoo, we can provide a thorough cost estimate. Our charges align with average rates for our location.

    Charges for Drawings:

In addition to tattooing, we do charge for our drawings. The design phase is crucial for ensuring the quality of our work. Even though we set specific prices for our drawings, we often invest more time in this process than what's charged. Our commitment to spending ample time on designs stems from our dedication to the craft. By being thorough in the preliminary stages, we can handle any challenges that arise during the actual tattooing process without stress.

    Factors Affecting Tattoo Time:

Our approach is always to deliver exceptional tattoos, regardless of skin type. Some skin types may take longer to tattoo than others, but our commitment is to achieve outstanding results every time.

  • How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?

In the Netherlands, the legal age to receive a tattoo is 16. We strictly adhere to this regulation. However, even for those who are legally old enough, our studio exercises discretion. Depending on factors like the chosen design, its size, and the placement on the body, we might decide not to proceed with the tattoo if it doesn't align with our standards or ethics.

  • Can I bring a friend with me during the session?

While you're welcome to bring a friend, it's essential to seek our permission beforehand. Friends are encouraged to come in briefly to get acquainted and soak in the ambiance of the studio. Extended stays by non-clients can be distracting to our work. Asking someone to depart during a session is uncomfortable, so we prefer limiting extra visitors from the onset.
